The Reclaiming

Saida Staudenmaier March 19, 2026

Spring is springing. This often brings tension of transformation. By now, the health resolutions may have fallen by the wayside. Thoughts and prayers for the vision board gathering dust. Perhaps a reframing is in order. Rather than changing, a reclaiming is what’s at hand. After all, a seed is reshaping, an alteration to be sure, but more of a return to the plant it came from, depending on your point of view.

Shall we unbind ourselves from the constraint of remolding into something new and embrace the return to something we already are, or remember being? Sounds good to me. Whatever that is for you, it can be enough. All I am saying is that instead of the constant labor to the horizon of betterment, stop, breathe, and stand in your space. Be you for a little while longer, beauty. Let that be what it is. Reclaim who you are, and in the knowing, you ARE already where you want to go.

This moment is fleeting. The acorns carry all the things that the great oak needs within them. Right now, they are punching through the dark to the light. A great metamorphosis is taking place. This is the rupture that is followed by the repair. What I see is not a massive change that shifts the landscape into something wholly new and unrecognizable. I see a cycle of reclamation of what is exposed and unvarnished. A return to the earth and the authentic. Equanimity.

The quiet time of winter is near its end in the Northern Hemisphere. Fall is approaching the Southern Hemisphere. As the seasons shift, my sincere hope is that wherever you are, you are well. That we continue to take care of those who need it, we amplify the voices of those doing the good work while holding accountable those who aren’t, we continue to engage in good trouble, we make art, we read, we question, and we never let the bawbags get us down.

Just as the state of affairs is, my industry continues to be just as topsy-turvy. If you have a connection, make one. Many creatives, like myself, are multi-hyphenates. I am a makeup artist. I also write, teach, make all kinds of stuff, and have skills even I forget from time to time. Be someone’s hype man. BE YOUR OWN! LFG!
