Sai's Tight Five

Saida Staudenmaier December 31, 2025

Musing

  • Observations and queries. It’s safe to say that ‘25 didn’t go as most, if not all, of us had planned. If looking at your socials is any indicator, y’all feel like I do as we cross to the finish line of ‘25 and head into ‘26. “If you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right.” Much of the result is due to intention and perspective. It’s just science. Yet 2025 felt more or less like a swift kick in the ass to me. My knuckles are a bit bloodied, but I’m still in the fight. As for 2026, watch me dance.

Makin’ it up (also known as work)

  • For those in my industry, the struggle continues to figure out whether the eternal flux we find ourselves in is the “new normal” or if normal even exists. The number of times I have heard that I’m in the business at the right time or the wrong time leads me to believe that none of us has it on lock. All I can tell you is that there are still stories to be told, and I, for one, have every intention to be there, taking part in the telling. This past year, I was fortunate to participate as a makeup artist on independent feature films, short films, TV show productions, commercial work, still photography, mentorships, and networking that brought collaboration and momentum. Maybe we aren’t living up the hill with the execs, but if we reflect and are honest, that wasn’t why we started this journey. I’m looking to ‘26 to land the rest of the days I need to get into IATSE, Local 706. Hit me up and LFG

Mix Tape

  • I got so much mileage out of last year’s playlist, I had to put another together. Winter Wanderings comes from a place of heartbreak and hope. There are oldies but goodies and some new tunes currently in heavy rotation. Something for everyone, I assure you. Emotionally charged and like the mix tapes of old, made to be listened to start to finish, without shuffle. It’s the soundtrack for where I’m at right now. Perhaps it’ll inspire you to make your own. If you do, send it my way. I’m always game for new tunes.

Magic (also known as art)

  • In September, I had my first-ever solo show at The Hive. The Witches You Could Not Burn opening reception in September was standing room only and truly magical. The month that followed was a steady stream of support from family and friends who stopped by to see the show and support The Hive. A resounding success by all metrics. I continue to teach at the studio, and thanks to our amazing community, we are all the BUZZZ!

Musts and a Message

  • This is the time of year when we are called to take a cue from nature and take a breather.

Yes, you are through the holiday season, but you are no doubt already crafting your resolutions, making big plans for the new year, and setting your sights on the goals that you will accomplish in ‘26. This is YOU YEAR. Let me be clear. I believe you will pull it off.

May I humbly offer a challenge? Not a 5K, not a beach bod by summer, not total financial freedom by fall although all three sound incredible and by all means have at it if you are so inclined.

I offer you a year of grace. Permission to step into your light just as you are. You are leveling up because you showed up. You made it to 2026 and you know what? That’s enough. After making it through 2025, you got this! Knuckles up, babe! Let’s dance.

The name is the recipe. Have Kit, Will Travel.
